- The eye-catching Shard is 309.6 meters high and 95% of construction materials were recycled.
- Southwark was a huge entertainment zone in London. It had many theatres, taverns, cockpits, gambling houses, and brothels. Due to this Southwark was a very dangerous place after dark, with the dangers of mugging and drunkards everywhere.
- Thomas Hans Orde-Lee jumped off Tower Bridge sporting a homemade parachute in 1917 to show its effectiveness in low altitudes and how it could be used by the Royal Air Force. This gave a start to the first parachute regiment.
- There used to be a latin sign above the entrance to the Globe Theatre that said “Totus mundus agit histrionem” meaning “The whole world is a playhouse”. In 1613 the Globe Theatre burnt down after a special effect went wrong on stage.
