In December 2005 Acorn identified three large-detached houses on the outskirts of Edenbridge town centre as a suitable site for residential redevelopment. Having explored various options it became apparent that, in order to maximise value, the site would be best suited to a scheme for retirement flats.
A sale was subsequently agreed to McCarthy & Stone and an application was submitted for 40 sheltered apartments in May 2006. By December of that year no decision had been made and the application was appealed for non-determination.
After being heard in July 2007, the appeal was refused and whilst the decision was not the anticipated outcome, it gave sufficient guidance to McCarthy & Stone for them to acquire the site unconditionally.
