Did you know?
  • It is said that the name Welling comes from the time of horse-drawn carriages when upon arriving in the area you would be ‘well-in’ to Kent. This, however, is debated among local historians, and it has been concluded that the name likely comes from ‘Welwyn' which means 'place of the spring'.
  • During that period, Welling was also densely covered in woodland, making it a notorious area for highwaymen and robberies.
  • Singer-songwriter Kate Bush grew up in Welling, specifically in East Wickham Farm on Wickham Street.
