Borough of Bexley

Blackfen is located in the London Borough of Bexley and is bordered by Bexley, Eltham, Sidcup, and Welling. There are many green spaces and parks which mainly focus around the River Shuttle which flows through Blackfen.

 

Did you know?
  • The name Blackfen originally referred to the black, marshy area on which Blackfen used to sit, and the motto is In Ramos Speramus.
  • Blackfen had two ancient Farms, Black Fenn Farm and Days Lane Farm, which date back to the 1600s, and supplied produce to the surrounding areas

The River Shuttle – This river flows eastwards through Blackfen

Danson Park – A large Grade 2 listed park, with a lake, boathouse, tennis courts, manor house, and playground. The park also has the historic ‘The Charter Oak’ which is an oak tree over 200 years old in the centre of Mid Park

 

Shopping

Blackfen Road has many shops including a Tesco Express, Co-op, Ayre's bakery, Casey's Schoolwear and a great community library. The Oval has many restaurants and shops located around an attractive green.

The George Staples – A great pub to watch the sports on one of their multiple televisions. This pub was previously The Woodman built in 1845 by George Staples

Properties

Following the sale of Danson Estate in 1922, a major housing boom occurred in the area meaning that most of the housing stock in the area is from the 1930s. Current sought after areas include Days Lane, Braundton Avenue and The Hollies.
